The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists ( CIAT ) has recognised the BSc(Hons) Architectural Technology for "Accreditation in Principle" and graduates from this course fulfil their requirements for Associate membership (ACIAT), the Foundation degree in Architectural Technology has been approved for a five year period leading to membership of (TCIAT) grade.
Course overview
This exciting new course is about developing students' Architectural creativity and advancing their technical skill and teaching them how to apply it to a fast moving architectural professional environment. At its core are building design projects, which will give students an excellent hands-on focus for their learning. In each project students will develop the brief, analyse the site and produce ideas for designs using traditional model making and more advanced Computer Aided Modelling packages eg AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch-up and 3D Studio Max.
What you can do after this course
Students can progress to Chartered Architectural Technologist status after a period of suitable industrial experience under supervision.
Entry requirements
- For applicants under 21 140 UCAS points from AS/A Level, National Diploma or an equivalent level 3 qualification in a related area.
- A relevant HNC / HND. Appropriate work experience will also be an advantage.
- For mature applicants - Direct admissions to programmes for applicants who have been out of full time education for more than two years will be considered based on previous learning or experience. Each application will be considered on individual merit. We recommend an interview with one of our Careers Advisers before submitting your application.
- Entry is normally subject to interview.
What you will learn
The BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology is a 3 year programme franchised from the University of Glamorgan and delivered at Pembrokeshire College.
Students will be taught about both emerging, innovative technologies and established construction methods. The course will also provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the current and future planning, building and environmental legislative framework, along with the project management skills needed for today's interdisciplinary architectural projects. Visits to key new buildings both recently completed and under construction will provide inspiration and bring the teaching to life.
