Three years, part time, Higher Education course.
The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists ( CIAT ) has approved the Foundation Degree Architectural Technology and graduates from this course fulfil their requirements for Associate membership (ACIAT), the Foundation degree in Architectural Technology has been approved for a five year period leading to membership of (TCIAT) grade.
Course overview
This exciting new course is about developing students' architectural creativity and advancing their technical skill and teaching them how to apply it to a fast moving architectural professional environment.
At its core are building design projects, which will give students an excellent hands on focus for their learning. In each project students will develop the brief, analyse the site and produce ideas for designs, using traditional model making and more advanced Computer Aided Modelling packages eg AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch-up and 3D Studio Max.
Entry requirements
- Successful completion of a level 3 qualification eg A Levels, NVQ 3, National Diploma in a related area or equivalent (80 UCAS credits equivalent).
- For mature applicants - Direct admissions to programmes for applicants who have been out of full time education for more than two years will be considered based on previous learning or experience. Each application will be considered on individual merit. We recommend an interview with one of our Careers Advisers before submitting your application.
What you will learn
This is a three year part time programme franchised from the University of Glamorgan and delivered at Pembrokeshire College. The course consists of nine modules over three years.
Students will be taught about both emerging, innovative technologies and established construction methods. Work experience forms a major constituent of this course with the students undertaking a minimum of 600 hours supervised work experience, which includes the submission of an agreed project between the employer, University and the student.
The course will also provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the current and future planning, building and interdisciplinary architectural projects. Visits to key new buildings, both recently completed and under construction will provide inspiration and bring the teaching to life.
