Careers/Further Study

This course will cover 10 units from the Open College Network (OCN) and students who successfully complete the course will attain a certificate from OCN for these units. There will be the chance for progression onto a second year that will cover an additional 10 (more advanced) units.


Entry Requirements

None - just enthusiasm and commitment.


Course Content

The course will start by fine tuning hand skills and introduction to construction techniques used in box and carcass work. This will be achieved by building two pieces of furniture specifically designed to give the student a good introduction to furniture making. The student will then progress onto the use of power tools and some machinery. He/she will then move onto designing/drawing and building their own project using the techniques they have learnt.


Course Assessment

There are no exams, but if you make good progress with your practical work you will be able to achieve a certificate from the Open College Network (equivalent level to GCSE).

Essential Equipment

Personal Protective Equipment - Overalls & Safety footwear must be worn in practical sessions.

£215 (concessionary fees £160/£115) - valid until August 2009
