For those interested in a career in marine engineering or any branch of engineering, we are offering the academic knowledge complemented by the vocational practical workshop skills. This course allows progression for a vocational career or pathways for professional status via HE progression and cadetships.
Progression onto the 2463 Level 3 Certificate in Boat Construction and Maintenance; Progression onto HND/Degree or Cadetship Apprenticeship in marine or maintenance engineering.
Year One: Extended Diploma units include: Mechanical Principles Applications; Electrical and Electronic Principles; Mathematics for Technicians; Health and Safety, Risk Assessment and Welfare in the Engineering Workplace; Properties and Application of Engineering Materials; Welding Principles; Engineering Drawing for Technicians; Business Systems for Technicians; Applications of Mechanical Systems and Technology. 2463 Level 2 Cert in Boat Construction and Maintenance units include: Working Safely in an Engineering Environment; Maintenance of Marine Engines.
Year Two: Extended Diploma units include: Project (double unit); Communication for Technicians; Engineering Design; Mechanical Measurement and Inspection Techniques; Engineering Maintenance Procedures and Techniques; Air Conditioning Systems; Propulsion Systems; Electro, Pneumatic and Hydraulics Systems and Devices. 2463 Level 2 Cert in Boat Construction and Maintenance units include: Engineering Processes and Principles; Propulsion Systems.
Essential Skills are studied as part of this programme.
Welsh Baccalaureate is a mandatory part of this course.
