The course is suitable for anyone with an interest in clay as a medium for making three dimensional objects. If you have always wanted to try your hand at working with clay and love the idea of making your very own functional and ornamental art, then this course is for you.

Is this course right for me?

This pottery course is designed for those who have attended the introduction course and want to learn more about pottery techniques OR has some pottery technique experience and wish to build upon that.

Each session will explore a particular method, following a demonstration, which will in turn guide learners towards a finished outcome of their own. Sessions will explore further techniques not previously covered and will also continue to explore skills associated with hand building in clay.

This course is non-accredited so you will not be assessed. It is for personal development and fun!

This eight week course runs on a Thursday, 18:00 – 20:00, Pembrokeshire College Main Campus.

The course aims to cover a range of ‘hand building’ techniques and is a progression from the introductory course.

Each session will explore a particular method, following a demonstration, which will in turn guide learners towards a finished outcome of their own. Sessions will explore further techniques not previously covered and will also continue to explore skills associated with hand building in clay.

The course will enable learners to produce both functional and decorative items for the home, and as gifts, that will be kiln fired and glazed. Basic glazing methods and technical information will also be covered.

The course will provide learners with an understanding of various building methods, surface pattern and finishes, safe art studio practice and an insight into the work of others as inspiration. Learners will have the opportunity to develop the skills they have gained previously and apply them to more advanced ideas.

This 8-week course will allow learners to continue developing their practical skills and further promote their own creativity through making and discussing potential ideas with others.

You will receive a College completion certificate at the end of the course.

Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
