This is a one and a half day course for anyone who owns a fixed or hand-held marine VHF radio. The Short Range Certificate is the qualification required by law if you operate a VHF radio fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) on any British vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio.

The candidate is expected to have a working knowledge of the phonetic alphabet.
One passport photograph will be required.

In addition to obtaining other maritime qualifications, the student may have the opportunity to progress into further employment on commercial vessels or other marine courses.
