Overview: 

This course investigates the theory of sport. It will provide you with the knowledge of the world of sport, exercise and physical recreation. Emphasis is placed on the sports studies fitness and coaching aspects. If you are outgoing, enthusiastic, love all sports and enjoy a challenge then this is the course for you.

Next steps: 

Typical careers could be teaching, sports coaching, leisure industry, local authority sport and recreation departments, sports research, armed forces and police. The course is an excellent stepping stone to study sport at Degree, Higher National Dipoma (HND) or Foundation Degree levels.

Entry requirements: 
Four GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent)
preferably include:
-English
-Maths
-in subject or related subject
First Diploma at merit plus 1 GCSE at Grade C or above or essential skills Level 2
Mature applicants - Each application considered on individual merit

Entry is normally subject to interview and a practical sports assessment

All prospective students should demonstrate a keen interest in sport and be physically fit in order to take part in practical activities

Practical activities are a feature of the course. During the course students will take part in a range of sports based at the Meads Sports Centre including badminton, volleyball, tennis and basketball.

The Sports Academies in football, rugby, netball and golf will be studied alongside this course, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. All sports students will be expected to participate and contribute to one of the sports academies organised by the college. The experience of having additional skill acquisition, analysis of performance and team ethics will further enhance students understanding of group dynamics benefiting them in their future vocation/employment.  

The course also includes essential skills in Numeracy, Communication and Information Technology, as well as the wider essential skills.
