Two years, full time, level three course.

This course equates to a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in the new Qualification Framework.


Course overview

For those interested in a career in any branch of engineering in particular local refinery and LNG industries. Work areas will include engineering design. Progression onto a Higher Education course such as a HNC, HND and degree is possible, or employment at trainee technician level.


Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs at C grade or above, including Maths, Science and English
  • First Diploma at merit, plus one GCSE (grade C or above) or Key Skills Level 2
  • All applicants will be required to bring confirmation of their GCSE results or any other qualification results to an enrolment event before the start of this course
  • For mature applicants - Direct admissions to programmes for applicants who have been out of full time education for more than two years will be considered based on previous learning or experience. Each application will be considered on individual merit. We recommend an interview with one of our Careers Advisers before submitting your application.
  • Entry is normally subject to interview

Year two

  • Project (Double Unit)
  • Communication for Technicians
  • Engineering Design
  • Mechanical Measurement and Inspection Techniques
  • Engineering Maintenance Procedures and Techniques
  • Principles and Applications of Engineering Measurement Systems
  • Electronic Measurement and Testing
  • Electro, Pneumatic and Hydraulics Systems and Devices

Key Skills are studied as part of this programme.

Full-time no course fees

A workshop fee of £20 is payable at the start of the 2nd year

Equipment £75 costs

Stationery minimum £30 costs
