Course Overview
A career in the public services is very satisfying for those who enjoy working with people. The course will provide a realistic introduction to work in any of the public services including fire, police, ambulance, prison, Customs and Exercise, armed forces and Social Services. You will find the course stimulating and varied as it combines classroom-based study with outdoor activity and group work.
The different course units are aimed at developing the skills and qualities necessary to handle demanding but very rewarding jobs.
What you could do after this course
Successful completion of the First Diploma (FD) will enable progression to the National Diploma (ND) Uniformed Services or other Level 3 courses (overall merit plus one GCSE at grade C or above will be required)or, employment in the police, fire, ambulance, armed forces, prison service, customs and excise, private security services and community services.
Entry requirements
- Two GCSE's at Grade D or above
- All applicants will be required to bring confirmation of their GCSE results or any other qualification results to an enrolment event before the start of this course
- For mature applicants - Direct admissions to programmes for applicants who have been out of full time education for more than two years will be considered based on previous learning or experience. Each application will be considered on individual merit. We recommend an interview with one of our Careers Advisers before submitting your application.

- Applicants may have to complete an online basic skills initial assessment at interview

How you will be assessed
You will be asked to complete several unit assignments which test what you have learned. To achieve the diploma you need to gain a pass in all units, these are all assignment based with no examinations.
