Three years, part time, one day a week, Higher Education (level 4) course.
What you could do after this course
Completion of the HND could lead to topping up to a Degree in a related subject area. For careers in veterinary nursing practice, managing wildlife and other animal based organisations, or further study at degree level.
Entry Requirements
- 80 UCAS points (from main programme) at AS Level/Vocational A Level (GCE), National Diploma, Access to HE or relevant training and experience equivalent to NVQ Level 3.
- This is available as a one year top up if you have previously completed a HNC in Animal Studies
- For mature applicants - Direct admissions to programmes for applicants who have been out of full time education for more than two years will be considered based on previous learning or experience. Each application will be considered on individual merit. We recommend an interview with one of our Careers Advisers before submitting your application.
What you will study
The course is delivered at Pembrokeshire College in association with the University of Glamorgan and is intended to offer a higher level qualification to those satisfying the entry requirements.
The HND course includes an element of work experience which is aimed to broaden the experience of the candidate and develop skills in the area of reflective thought/practice. Anthrozoology investigates the long term interaction of humans and animals and then varied inter relations. Animal breeding investigates stock selection and breeding techniques for a range of animals while the specialised study allows the student to carry out research in their own specialist study allows the student to carry out research in their own specialist area of interest with specialist student support.
The Foundation Degree consists of a treble weighted "Employment Experience Certificate", along with either the anthrozoology unit or the animal breeding unit. This is designed as a more vocationally orientated top up than the HND.
How you will be assessed
The assessment of the programme will be through a mixture of written, presentational and exam based evidence.
