Boatbuilding

MITEC has a large, well-lit woodworking shop for traditional vessels up to 10 metres in length and an advanced composites bay for hand lay-up and resin infusion FRP. The City & Guilds 2451 (Boatbuilding) course is the 'industry standard'. Topics covered include lofting, construction in wood and FRP, boat joinery and fitting-out, machinery installations, woodworking machinery and sail plans. Students can also study key skills (information technology, application of number and communications) as part of this course. The City & Guilds boatbuilding qualification is recognized by all marine employers and many of our students have secured exciting and interesting jobs both locally and overseas. Course duration: two years.
