Hydrofoil Pod Project

A second year HND Leisure Boat Design student project. It is a concept boat at present but the designer and the MITEC centre are keen to build and test a prototype. It is designed to be easily portable and to provide very exhilarating sailing as either a hydrofoil boat, ice yacht or land yacht.

As part of the project Sean Dennehy researched hydrofoils and hydrodynamics as well as learning to use sophisticated modelling and rendering systems. He developed the CAD drawings using three software programs Maxsurf (boat design), Solidworks (Solid modelling) and Rhino. All the CAD drawings are full size and it is hoped to use the MITEC CAM system to make templates, moulds and models to further the development of this revolutionary boat.

Sean will be starting his degree next year and it is hoped that by the end of his time at MITEC there will be a full sized prototype in action.
