Staff from Pembrokeshire College were presented with their seventh AoC Beacon Award in six years at a recent ceremony in Whitehall. At the event, the Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, Bill Rammel, presented the award and acknowledged the college for being the most consistent UK winner in recent times.

The AoC Beacon Awards, which consistently receive around 300 applications each year, are presented by the AoC and seek to bring FE colleges displaying high levels of teaching and support to their learners into the limelight.

Bill Rammell, the Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, said:

I am delighted to present the AoC Beacon Awards to these colleges which are leading the field in their various areas. The colleges are at the forefront of the FE sector, developing and updating their learning techniques, providing engaging learning environments and increasingly using technology to aid their learners.

The AoC Beacon Awards are a reflection of the high standards of the FE sector and I welcome this opportunity to acknowledge and applaud the adaptability of the sector in responding to the needs of its students, and the demands of business and local communities.

College Principal Glyn Jones commented: Well done to the innovative work of the mlearning team who have been extremely effective in engaging disaffected young adult learners in Pembrokeshire through the use of latest mobile (PDA) technology.

Winning seven AoC Beacon Awards in six consecutive years is a reflection of the consistently high quality work being carried out for our learners across a broad range of areas in the college.
