WJEC A-level History
The study of History at A-level provides you with a fascinating opportunity to study some of the most significant events of the past – some of which have shaped the world in which we live today.
Is this course right for me?
The course will provide you with an introduction to the ideas, events and personalities shaping the development of Britain and Europe over the past century. A-level History will develop your analytical and questioning skills and provide you with an opportunity to explore the events of history and the significance they had both then and now.
- Five GCSEs at grade C or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/First Language Welsh and Mathematics/Numeracy
- History grade B and English Language/Literature/First Language Welsh grade B

- Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
- Successful completion of relevant programme (including skills) and decision from progression board meeting
Learners to study history through several scales and dimensions, including period, depth and breadth. This will encourage the acquisition of a wide range of historical knowledge and a full range of skills.
Units to be studied will include:
- Government, revolution and society in Wales and England c.1603 – 1715
- The crisis of the American republic c.1840-1877
- Part 1: Sectional differences and the road to civil war c.1840-1861
- Poverty, protest and rebellion in Wales and England c.1485 – 1603
- The crisis of the American republic c.1840 – 1877
- Part 2: Civil war and reconstruction c.1861 – 1877
- A personal research project

Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST) in upskilling / Lessons in Financial Education
