This vocational qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a complementary therapist. The course covers mandatory units including massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, anatomy & physiology and the relevant business skills for complementary therapies.

This course normally runs one day per week plus 1 commercial session per week, for 34 weeks, starting in October.

  • If under 19, relevant Level 1 or two GCSEs at grade D or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/First Language Welsh
  • Good personal presentation and communication skills are required
  • Each application is considered on individual merit

Units include:

  • Provide body massage for complementary therapies – This unit is about the skills involved in providing body massage treatments. You will learn about the classical Swedish massage movements and will be required to adapt massage techniques to suit individual client needs. You will also learn about health, safety, hygiene and client care
  • Provide aromatherapy for complementary therapies- Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to promote physical and emotional well-being. Oils are inhaled, used topically or used in massage. If used in conjunction with massage, Aromatherapy can enhance the benefits of a massage by promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and easing muscle tension.
  • Provide reflexology for complementary therapies – Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the theory that different points on the feet, hands, and ears correspond to different areas of the body. By applying pressure to these points, it is believed that reflexology can promote relaxation, improve circulation, and support overall well-being. The reflexology chart shows the different reflex points on the feet and their corresponding body parts.
