The process safety industry can have very high hazard workplaces. Having qualified staff who know how to safety manage workplace activities will have a huge positive impact.

This course is ideal for people that are working, or are interested in working in process industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, plastics and pharmaceuticals. Its the perfect qualification for newly appointed managers, junior managers, team leaders or safety representatives working in the process industry.

This course will equip learners with a broad understanding of the accepted principles and recognised industrial practices for the management of process risk. This means they will be able to recognise and contribute to the control of process safety hazards. NEBOSH has joined forces with Great Britain’s Health and Safety Regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to develop this course with a combination of their expertise.

This course will give learners an understanding of the following key topics:

  • Establishment of process management systems.
  • Asset management and maintenance strategies.
  • Safe start-up and shutdown of process plant.
  • Performance standards for safety critical systems and equipment.
  • Hazards and controls for; chemical reactions, bulk storage of dangerous substances, fire and explosion.
  • Purpose and features of emergency plans

Who is the course for?

This course is for people around the world who work in process industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, plastics and pharmaceuticals. It is not designed for chemical and process safety engineers experienced in the specification, design and maintenance of process plant. We recommend learners have an underpinning knowledge of health and safety principles and issues in the processing industry. Previous achievement of the NGC or IGC is recommended

  • Good personal presentation and communication skills are required
  • You should have some basic computer skills including being able to save and locate files and access websites

  • Fire and explosion protection
