A First for Cornerstone
- Posted by: pembscollegesuperadmin
Congratulations Cornerstone on an amazing victory in the Art and Design category in the Urdd Eisteddfod, Pembrokeshire. The group won first prize in the competition to create a 2d artwork for students under 25 who have additional learning needs. This is the first time ever that the students have entered this competition.
The winning entry was a study on the theme set by the Urdd ‘Patterns in the environment’ and the students created a striking and unique piece under the guidance of their tutor, Heidi Baker. The work is based on the ‘Welsh pears’ pattern, often seen on the shawl worn with the Welsh costume, and inside the paisley pattern can be seen the students ideas of the patterns within the environment.
Heidi said, “The students did a lovely job making observational drawings of woodland plants and planting them all together to make a striking design.”
The winning entry can be seen on the Urdd website and will also be displayed in the Art and Design marquee on the Eisteddfod field. The Cornerstone group have also prepared a new work to be displayed in the College marquee in the Eisteddfod so call over to see the specially designed bunting celebrating Wales.
