A plum of an idea…

Two sisters from Camrose, recently took a gamble and left their high-flying jobs in Cardiff, to set up their own enterprise, creating artisan confectionary called Oh Sugarplum. Laura, 25, formerly employed by the BBC and her sister Katie, 28, waved goodbye to the NHS. “We spent many hours together in Cardiff making chocolates at the weekend. Our hobby became a passion and we soon realised, that maybe, we could turn it into a profitable business,” said Katie.
Before they launched their new company the girls approached the College to help them to brand their product. Branding is required to give products and services recognition and to demonstrate quality to potential customers. Katie and Laura set a brief for design students to create a logo. Both Katie and Laura favoured the logo designed by first year student and former Greenhill pupil, Jake Jenkins, 17. “The use of the plum illustrating our name and the toffee apple, representing confectionary, was simple but effective,” said Laura.
The sisters will be launching their business in June 2012, with the aim of supplying businesses in west Wales with their hand-made chocolates, which include Rhubarb & Custard Truffles and fluffy Marshmallows. The brand identity created by Jake will help give this new and exciting business a smooth entry into the local market, with an online presence planned for the future.
