A window on business

After successfully completing their visual merchandising unit, extended diploma in business students from Pembrokeshire College put their newly acquired skills to good use creating an eye-catching window display for the Paul Sartori charity shop in Bridge Street, Haverfordwest.
The visual merchandising element of the course is aimed at equipping students with the skills needed to progress to higher education in a related field or enter directly into employment. It was also hoped that through their displays the students would increase public awareness of the wide variety of reasonably priced goods available within one of the county’s largest charity shops.
Business lecturer at the College, Clare Arnold, commented: “Being given the opportunity to create a visual display in a real shop window is an invaluable experience for the College’s business students. Opportunities such as this allow the students to gain hands-on experience and makes them really think about how important the shop window is to any business.”
To create their displays the students opted to use a diverse range of merchandise with each student choosing their own theme to work with which ranged from men’s ties to prom gowns to footwear. Each student had the opportunity to showcase their own personality and individuality whilst completing this unit.
Clare Arnold and the year two business students would like to express their thanks to the staff and management of Paul Sartori for making the shop available to Pembrokeshire College students to complete their coursework as well as the help staff provided.
