An Electric Experience!…
- Posted by: pembscollegesuperadmin
Pembrokeshire College and Pembrokeshire County Council have embarked on a joint venture through the Sustainable Travel Project, by purchasing an electric car, a Nissan Leaf, worth £25,000. The council has already added several electric vehicles to their pool, but this is a first for the College. The Welsh Government funded project has proved to be a strong talking point at the College, with staff eager to get behind the wheel. Steve Jones, Head of Estates commented,
“The College is leading the way with sustainable practices and winning awards for it, so it was inevitable that we would go down the sustainable travel route.”
County Councillor Deputy Leader Rob Lewis, said “ This sustainable venture has been successful for both organisations, when it costs only £1.50 to travel 100 miles, it demonstrates unquestionable sustainability for both the environment and the bottom line.”
One member of staff commented, “It was a great driving experience, I felt I was floating on air and it was so quiet!”
The project has increased awareness of electric cars in Pembrokeshire and more communities are now getting involved, with further charging points being installed. As technology makes quantum leaps, running your car off a domestic 13 Amp plug will soon be yesterday’s news.
