The College’s Employment Bureau hosted their 5th Employer Lunch Event on Wednesday 27th November 2019. The event, sponsored by Dragon LNG, gave 50 learners from IT and Business courses the chance to meet with employers over a lunch within the College’s student-run ‘Eat@6 Restaurant’. A big thank you to all who participated.
Company representatives, from IT and Business-related departments, attended from Dragon LNG, NHS, Dyfed-Powys Police, Evens & Co Accountants, Pembrokeshire County Council and Milford Waterfront (the Port of Milford Haven). Each had the opportunity to talk about what it’s like to work in their industry, to discuss the IT and Business-related career options/job vacancies for learners to consider following course completion.
Feedback from the day included:
“Excellent set up & discussion, managed to gather a variety of information from different companies. It gave me a great opportunity to speak to possible employers.”
“ I really enjoyed today & I think that this initiative is great to gain a reliable perspective of what working life is like. It has also opened my eyes to a wider range of routes to take into employment other than traditional academic.”
“It has helped by opening up an avenue of local talent to fill vacancies in the NHS.” – NHS
Karen Wood, Stakeholder and Communications Manager at Dragon LNG said: “Another successful and superbly organised event in partnership with Pembrokeshire College, resulting in opportunities and experiences. Thank you to all the College teams involved!”
Dr Barry Walters, Principal of Pembrokeshire College commented, “Pembrokeshire College was delighted to host its fifth Dragon LNG sponsored employer/student lunch. The event provided a great opportunity for nearly 70 students to talk to a range of employers about working in the fields of IT, Business and Accountancy, within the Council, Police, NHS and Port Authority. The feedback obtained suggests that the students benefited hugely from the experience. Events such as this only work with the support of the employers so we are extremely grateful to the Port of Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire County Council, Hywel Dda Health Board, Bruce Evens Accountancy, Dragon LNG and Dyfed Powys Police for their time and support”.
