Having delivered sign language courses for over a decade, Pembrokeshire College has recently announced that from September 2018 it will be offering the Level 3 Certificate in British Sign Language.
The two-year part-time course is accredited by Signature and will be delivered by the College’s highly experienced tutor, Shirley David on their Haverfordwest campus.
This course provides an excellent progression opportunity for those with a Level 2 qualification and is ideally suited for communication workers, LSAs and frontline staff working on a regular basis with deaf people of all ages.
Tutor Shirley David is excited about delivering this Level 3 qualification and commented: “I am delighted that Pembrokeshire College has decided to include this course in the 2018/19 curriculum. This is a wonderful opportunity for people to develop their British Sign Language skills and thereby improve services for the deaf community in West Wales. The first unit covers linguistics, for example understanding key features of the language, how sentences are structured and signing aspects such as the use of formal and informal registers. There are two other units which focus on understanding and production of BSL in a variety of work and social settings. The course will also include aspects of d/Deaf awareness and Deaf culture. All students must have already completed BSL Level 2 but anyone lacking confidence or skills will be invited to a refresher day before commencement.”
Applications are available on the Pembrokeshire College community website, or by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. Due to high demand, it is recommended that applications are sent by 18th June 2018.
