Conor’s Apparel Success

At Pembrokeshire College enterprise is not just a buzzword – it’s the College’s mantra – inspiring young people to create and innovate. With a dedicated enterprise co-ordinator to offer advice and guidance, students at the College are continually developing business ideas with a wealth of diverse and innovative business start-ups now in operation.
To help develop the College’s enterprise culture, throughout the year the College’s diary has many enterprise events that are designed to encourage budding entrepreneurs to come forward and put their ideas into action.
A-level student Conor Ratcliff is one of a strong cohort of College students who have demonstrated the skills needed to get a strong idea and identity off the ground and turned into a profitable business. Since launching his skateboard apparel fashion brand ‘RAT’ clothing less than 12 months ago, student Conor and has sold over 100 t-shirts and commented that the help and advice offered by Pembrokeshire College and the Welsh Government had proved invaluable to getting his fledgling business off the ground.
At the College’s recent enterprise event NatWest bank brought their double-decker bus to the College to promote a strong business message of supporting local businesses. “Our strategy is a simple one – to raise the profile of a bank that is willing to help start-ups, especially in challenging times. As a bank we have a responsibility to local business communities, we need to listen, advise, resource and share the ambitions of entrepreneurs,” said Andy Woodthrope, Director of Business Banking at NatWest.
Other local businesses to attend the event included a new venture called Red Kite Juices, a healthy little bottle of goodness containing fruit, beetroot and honey. Music Technology students including James Taylor and Thomas Absalom took the opportunity to launch their new CD – Kitty Spit and Business Diploma student Jess Webb who set up her stall selling body and nail art.
