If you are over 18 years old, hands on and looking for a new career in the engineering industry, become work ready with this broad-based practical course.
Is this course right for me?
This course offers development opportunities across a wide range of engineering construction roles. This qualification will provide the skills and knowledge required to progress safely into the workplace/employment or increase your skills and progress onto more advanced qualifications in the engineering sector.
This programme is aimed at learners aged over 18 years old and will start in January 2025.
The duration is five days per week for 16 weeks.
What are the entry requirements?
- No formal entry requirements
- Life skills, experience and maturity are important
- Each application is considered on individual merit
- Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
- The learner must be over the age of 18

What will I learn?
During the programme you will complete the following:
City & Guilds Level 2 in Engineering:
- Working in engineering
- Principles of engineering technology
- Principles of fabrication and welding technology
- Welding by MIG process
- Fabricating thick plate, bar and sections
Pre-Employment Programme:
- CCNSG
- Hand and Power Tools
- Manual Handling
- Working at Heights
- Abrasive Wheels
- Low Risk Confined Space Entry
Three weeks work experience with a local employer.
Will I need to study additional English & Maths skills?
- the course you are taking at College
- what grades you gained in your GCSE Maths and/or English Language
If you are studying a construction/trade course (brickwork, carpentry, electrical or plumbing):
- Essential Skills Wales (ESW) in Application of Number and Communications
All other courses:
- Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST) in upskilling / Lessons in Financial Education
- A one year GCSE resit course in required subject/s
- A one or two year pre-GCSE upskilling course
- A one year GCSE START upskilling course
Can I do this course in Welsh?
Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
