Is this course right for me?

The IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management Course syllabus covers a wide range of environmental and sustainability issues to enable you to become a practitioner who can drive change in organisations. A practical approach is adopted to enable organisations to improve their environmental performance and reduce their impacts, both strategically and operationally.

You will require a foundation level of environmental and/or sustainability knowledge. It is recommended to have taken the IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management or a similar course, or to have gained the equivalent knowledge and skills via work experience.

This course is taught via virtual classroom.

Taught via a virtual classroom, the units include:

Fundamentals of sustainability, business and governance
This module explains the implications of global trends for the environment, for society, for the economy and for organisations. The module also explains the role of the Environment/Sustainability practitioner in overcoming these challenges and looks at sustainable business governance models, their underlying principles and their relationship with organisations, products and services.

Environmental principles, policy and legislation
The module explains environmental principles and their relationship with organisation, products and services. This module also explains significant policy and legislation and implications for organisations, products and services.

Environmental management, assessment tools and skills
The module explains the tools, techniques, systems and practices used to develop sustainable products and services and improve sustainability performance. The module also looks at the role of innovation and in developing those products and services as well as how to collect and critically analyse data and report information. It covers how to identify problems and assess opportunities that deliver innovation and determine the most effective ways of communicating the findings and showcases how to apply or implement tools, techniques, systems and practices to identify opportunities and risks, as well as implement change and transformation.

The IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management course is assessed through three knowledge-based assignments, one after each course week. This means learners are assessed during the course rather than after it. Learners must pass all three assignments to register for the IEMA Practitioner Membership (PIEMA) assessment. From there, learners take an Assessment of Competence-based on work experience and will receive their marks approximately sixty days after their submission.

Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
