This course is aimed at people who wish to learn how to respond to emergencies in any situation but focuses on the workplace.

The First Aid at Work is a three day course that builds on the Emergency First Aid at Work course with additional information on treating major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis.

  • No formal entry requirements
  • You should be physically capable of completing the practical elements of this course

By the end of the course learners will be able to:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Be able to assess an incident
  • Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty:
    • who is choking
    • with external bleeding
    • with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
    • with suspected head and spinal injuries
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty:
    • who is in shock
    • with minor injuries
    • with suspected chest injuries
    • with burns and scalds
    • with an eye injury
    • with sudden poisoning
    • with anaphylaxis
    • with suspected major illness
  • Be able to conduct a secondary survey
