Upcycling Craft
The course is suitable for anyone with an interest in creating handmade gifts and items for the home using sustainable starting points.
Is this course right for me?
If you have a passion for ‘upcycled art’ or ‘vintage chic’ and can appreciate all things handmade, then this course is for you. If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at creating decorative gifts and objects for the home using found materials or considered having a go at revamping an old wooden container or piece of furniture, then this course will show you how.
No previous experience is necessary just a keen interest in creating unique, decorative objects and a willingness to explore new processes and ideas.
This course is non-accredited so you will not be assessed. It is for personal development and fun!
This eight-week course may return in the new academic year.
- No formal entry requirements
- The learner must be over the age of 18
The course aims to cover a range of techniques that will enable you to produce both functional and decorative items for the home and as gifts for friends or family. The course will provide you with an understanding of how to achieve certain styles and finishes and will give you an insight into what ‘upcycled’ style entails.
Over the eight weeks you will have the opportunity to explore a range of materials and techniques such as; paper crafts, paint effects, decoupage, altered art and fabric craft, with the emphasis on recycling, upcycling and sustainable thinking.
Each workshop will be guided by a practical demonstration exploring various making processes, techniques, ideas and starting points. This will then allow you to develop your practical skills and creativity by applying the ideas yourself. Examples of other designers and makers working with similar techniques and materials will also be used to promote your own creativity and provide inspiration, aiming to show you the variety of possibilities available.
You will receive a College completion certificate at the end of the course.
