Llongyfarchiadau and congratulations to students from the College who have been successful in the Art and Design competitions in the Eisteddfod.
Georgie Leeke, a fashion student has won first in the art under 19 category. Lecturer Sally Thomas said: “Students from the ED fashion and textiles course at Pembrokeshire College have, once again, achieved success with their entries into the Urdd Eisteddfod competition. Many gained awards at County level, with Georgie going on to win a Gold with her original hand printed garment based on the patterning and shapes discovered within antique Welsh Lovespoons. Knowing that the work would be entered into the Urdd Eisteddfod was a good motivator and inspired the students to delve that much further with their research to create original and exciting design work. They have really enjoyed the opportunity to exhibit their beautiful work to a wider audience.”
The Cornerstone students, with the assistance of their tutor Heidi Baker, are celebrating for the third year in a row. Having secured a first prize in the local Pembrokeshire Eisteddfod in 2013 and a third prize last year in a fiercely contested competition, they have once again reached the top and won a first prize in the 2D Artwork for learners who have additional learning needs. Inspiration for the work was gleaned from the Urdd theme for this year, ‘Growing and thriving’.
The winning work will be displayed in the Art and Design marquee in the Caerphilly eisteddfod this year.
