Finding Your Way Around College

The main College campus is fairly big but it’s unlikely that you’ll need to find your way around all of it. Most courses use specific parts of the College, for example carpentry students will spend most of their time in the Construction Centre while hospitality students will spend most of their time in the kitchen and restaurant. You’ll soon get to know your way around but below are a few pointers.

On the main campus there are four buildings: the Main College Building, the Construction Centre, the Engineering/Welding Centre and the Technology Innovation Centre known as the TIC.

There is signage throughout the building but here are a few simple tips to help you. Each room number will have at least one letter before it. The letter immediately before the number tells you which floor the room is on:

  • L = Lower floor rooms
  • G = Ground floor rooms
  • F = First floor rooms
  • S = Second floor rooms

Rooms in the Main Building don’t have a second letter so if there is just one letter before the room number you know the room is in the main building and you just need to find the right floor. Rooms in the Construction Centre will start with a C then the floor letter, rooms in the Engineering/Welding Centre will start with E, while rooms in the TIC start with a T followed by the floor letter. Eg: TF1.18 means that the room is in the TIC (T), on the First Floor (F), Room 18 (18).

In the main building, instead of an additional letter there is an additional number, this tells you which corridor the room is in. The main ones are 1, 5, 6 and 7. So in the main building you will have the floor letter, followed by the corridor number, then the room number. Eg: if you are looking for the computer suite in F7.4 you will head upstairs to the First Floor (F), look for the F7 corridor, then find room number 4.

Don’t panic, there are always lots of staff around to help you find your way.

We also have two Animal Care Centres, one at Withybush and one at Folly Farm. These are much easier to find your way around!
