Pembrokeshire College football academy was one of eight colleges across Wales to recently be awarded the Football Association of Wales (FAW) Focus College status.
During an award ceremony hosted by the Welsh Government, certificates were presented to representatives from each of the successful colleges by Wales manager Chris Coleman and Leighton Andrews, Minister for Education Skills.
To gain this prestigious award, the College had to meet strict performance and management criteria relevant to the delivery of football at the College. This involved an inspection by a FAW Development Officer and review panel.
The award acknowledges the professional approach to football in post-16 education with the aim of offering male and female players a high standard of coaching and playing opportunities that currently includes 5 -a-side, futsal and 11-a-side football. The award has a strong emphasis on the voluntary aspects of the game where college players are able to complete a football leaders coaching award and experience referring at primary school tournaments.
