Once the party invitations have all dried up…. we have a date for your diaries for the New Year:
Hannah Dahill, Associate Director at Morgan LaRoche Solicitors will give a brief overview on the issues of modern slavery, which could affect us all.
“The Modern Slavery Act requires businesses with a turnover of £36m or more to make an annual statement setting out what they have done to tackle any slave and child labour in their supply chains. Although the legal duty to tackle slavery in supply chains is on larger corporations, SMEs also have a duty to ensure their supply chains are slavery-free.
We will be seeing an increase in larger organisations undertaking due diligence and requiring information and data from the SMEs that supply them to ensure that those SMEs have policies and procedures in place to deal with Modern Slavery, either when tendering for new work or during an existing contract.
Even though SMEs do not have the same resources that larger organisations have to tackle potential problems, there are simple steps SMEs could take to protect their business. Those SMEs in high risk sectors such as agriculture, telecommunications, hospitality and manufacturing should take particular care”.
This workshop will provide a brief overview of the Act as well as identifying the steps SMEs should be taking now.
