Pembrokeshire College sports academy, beauty therapy and hairdressing students recently put their skills into practice when they took part in the Full of Life Event held at Narberth’s Bloomfield Centre on Thursday 24 October.
Aimed at Pembrokeshire’s over fifties, the event was packed with activities and tasters, from an introduction to Skype to light exercise and craft making. Throughout the event the College’s sports students carried out health assessments including calculating body mass index and taking visitors’ blood pressure whilst the beauty therapists performed manicures, complementary therapists offered relaxing mini neck, shoulder and hand massages and hairdressing students carried out basic hair styling and hair consultations.
Through the event, complementary therapy students were able to use the treatments they were carrying out as part of their reflexology assessments while sports students gained confidence through interacting with the public. The event also enabled the sports students to put into practice the skills learnt in their fitness testing module with a broad range of clients.
As part of the event the College donated three make-overs as prizes for the inter-generational photo competition as well as a raffle prize of dinner for two at the College’s Academy Restaurant.
The College would also like to take this opportunity to thank Valero for their sponsorship which enables sports academy students to participate in a range of community events such as this.
