Going MaDD for charity
- Posted by: pembscollegesuperadmin
Pembrokeshire College is holding its annual 'Make a Difference Day' (MaDD) on Wednesday 3rd July 2013.
One of the many projects staff at the College have set themselves is to walk the whole of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path in just one day! Staff will be raising money through sponsorship for a number of local charities: Adam’s Bucketful of Hope, The British Heart Foundation, CwtchPembs, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Haverfordwest Street Pastors, PATCH, Paul Sartori and Riding for the Disabled.
Each walker has been tasked with raising a minimum of £10 but more would be fantastic with the aim being to collect over £1,000 in total. Approximately 100 walkers have already signed up to the challenge and more are welcome. Each walker will allocate their money as they see fit with each of the nominated charities having a personal story attached.
Small groups will walk each section and call / text into a central coordinator as they start and complete their designated section. The coastal path has been sectioned up so as walkers start and finish in a nice spot for a picnic or a cuppa. Effort has also been made to align the sections with the coastal bus pick up points so walkers aren’t stranded at the end of their section! Families and other groups, ramblers, youth groups etc are welcome to join the teams, the more the merrier! Groups will also be carrying litter bags and picking up litter along the way.
You can follow the progress of the Pembrokeshire College walkers or join them. Go to: www.facebook.com/MaDDwalkers
Whilst some staff are walking the coastal path other staff will be involved in a plethora of projects including beach cleaning, pond building and painting, decorating and maintenance for various community organisations. To find out more call Pembrokeshire College on 01437 753 000.
