Johnny Ball set to help parents feel clued up – not clueless!
After last February’s successful event, TV celebrity Johnny Ball, who is most famous for popularising Mathematics and Science, will return to the Merlin Theatre to help parents and youngsters understand post-16 qualifications. Industry experts, educationalists and a much loved and respected family favourite, will come together for the second ‘What Next – Live’ event to be held at the College on 26 November 2013, 6pm start.
Whether your son or daughter have ambitions to go to university or straight into work, there are various qualifications on offer that are designed to suit their ability; these include Diploma, A-level and Apprenticeship pathways.
But what do all these alternative qualifications mean and which pathway is appropriate? The College has responded to requests from confused parents to help explain and answer their questions about today’s qualifications and learning opportunities. Parents have voiced their eagerness to equip themselves with the knowledge of post-16 qualifications in order to support their children’s decision making.
“Instead of schools and colleges taking control, parents will be able to improve their influence by understanding the choices available and the different routes to university or employment,” said Dr Geoff Elliott.
“The enthusiastic approach and inspirational presentation of Johnny Ball, is unsurpassable”, Radio Times.
An event designed to explain, explore and engage
What Next – Live, 26 November 2013 – will feature a talk from the CITB while Andrew Kennedy, Deputy Headmaster of Ysgol Dewi Saint, will present A-levels and the North Pembrokeshire Federation and College Lecturer Phil Ratcliff will de-mystify the Diploma pathway.
“I was a little confused about post-16 education until Johnny’s event, I didn’t realise that there were alternative qualifications to A-levels.” Mrs Lorraine Adams.
