“Just do it!” Like Jess
- Posted by: pembscollegesuperadmin
Part of the College's learning ethos is to promote entrepreneurship via the Welsh Baccalaureate, ESDGC and Global Enterprise – all of which encourage students to build local, national and international business perspectives. With this in mind, the business department has certainly helped to increase student Jess Webb's appetite for entrepreneurship. Jess has been committed to setting up her own business and has recently been chosen to feature in a Welsh Government advertising campaign promoting enterprise to young people.
Jess from Carew, launched ‘Little Green Phoenix’ whilst studying for her Business Diploma. Jess up-cycles anything she can get her hands on – creating wine racks from wooden pallets, coasters from old magazines and vases from tins. “My Diploma course has really helped me think about my business strategically, I have set up an e-business last year that sells up-cycled products – turning boring everyday products into new products,” enthused Jess.
Jess was also a member of the successful team that represented Wales at The Global Enterprise Challenge in Germany last year. Jess has had further recognition for her enterprising skills by securing a place on the Big Ideas Wales boot camp in Bluestone in January (only 50 spaces available across Wales).
Big Ideas Wales is a Welsh Government initiative that was created to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and get the young people of Wales interested in starting up their own business.
“After the success of Big Ideas Wales, Jess was offered the opportunity to have a stall in the Hayes in Cardiff. This was a huge opportunity for her, only two of the boot camp attendees were offered this,” said tutor Karen Neville.
Jess’ advice to other young peoples “just do it!” You can buy Jess’s creations on her Facebook page called Little Green Phoenix.
