New course with Chevron
- Posted by: pembscollegesuperadmin
Today, Chevron (former owners of Pembroke Refinery) announced an exciting new partnership with Pembrokeshire College to introduce a valuable new course into the manufacturing education curriculum. Through their combined knowledge and expertise, experts from both organisations have designed a training programme which can have applications across many UK process industries.
“Chevron has worked with Pembrokeshire College for many years and we are pleased to have been able to build upon this partnership and construct this new course, said Greg Hanggi, General Manager Petrochemicals, Asia Refining Development . “These course modules can make important contributions to Process Safety Management education in many manufacturing situations.”Located at the heart of Wales’ energy and fuels refining industry and with wide industry experience, both Pembrokeshire College and Chevron are well placed to understand the needs of the process industries and their training requirements in this key sector for the Welsh economy. The Milford Haven waterway currently serves six major energy terminals and sustains around 4,000 skilled jobs.
Once rolled out the programme will give learners an understanding of the critical importance of process safety management in maintaining a safe and incident free working environment. Candidates will gain an understanding of process hazards and the typical risk management methods adopted by process industries. It will also give an understanding of the roles, responsibilities and competencies required for specific work activities in an incident free workplace.
“This is an excellent development, as it will plug the gap between current generic health and safety modules and the requirements for process industries. It will be incorporated into our mainstream further education engineering programmes and offered as a stand-alone course for industry. The aim of this course is to equip learners and professionals with vital knowledge of process safety.,” Hugh Roch, International Manager.
