IGCSE Maths (Higher)

You will have access to 60 x 1 hour IGCSE Maths (Higher) lessons delivered live by your course teacher (1 per week during term time throughout the course). All of these live sessions are also recorded to allow you to access any of your previous lessons whenever you want to, which is very useful for revising!

Pembrokeshire College Online also includes revision and exam preparation sessions towards the end of the course to prepare you for your exams.

Higher vs Foundation

Higher
  • Grades achievable:    1-9 (G-A**)
  • Two 2-hour exam papers, calculators allowed
  • Lots of problem solving, multistep questions
  • Strong English comprehension skills needed
  • Strong emphasis on algebra
  • Recommended to move onto Maths A-level and related subjects
Foundation
  • Grades achievable:     1-5 (G-high C)
  • Two 2-hour exam papers, calculators allowed
  • Less multistep questions
  • Less wordy questions
  • More numerical questions, less complex algebra
  • Recommended if you only need Maths IGCSE to move onto next stage of education or employment

The IGCSE Mathematics (Higher) course covers the following topics:

    • Use numerical skills in a purely mathematical way and in real-life situations
  • Algebra
    • Use letters as equivalent to numbers and as variables
    • Understand the distinction between expressions, equations and formulae
    • Use algebra to set up and solve problems
    • Demonstrate manipulative skills
    • Construct and use graphs
  • Geometry
    • Use properties of angles
    • Understand a range of transformations
    • Work within the metric system
    • Understand ideas of space and shape
    • Use ruler, compasses and protractor appropriately
  • Statistics
    • Understand basic ideas of statistical averages
    • Use a range of statistical techniques
    • Use basic ideas of probability

Assessments & Homework

As part of your IGCSE Maths (Higher) course you will be required to complete regular homework assessments.

While your homework does not count towards your final grade, it is used to monitor your progress, ability, and to enable your teacher to support your learning and ensure you are prepared for the exams.

All homewok assignments have been designed to prepare you for your examinations, and questions are based on examination style questions.

Your homework assignments have been designed to match a specific Pembrokeshire College Online live session, so it is easy to go back and revisit the relevant lesson if you get stuck.

The most important part of your IGCSE Maths (Higher) course (apart from you) is your dedicated teacher.

All our teachers have extensive academic experience and have taught in the classroom as well as online.

You will be assigned a course teacher when you enrol on your course who will support you for the duration of your studies.
