UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production

If you are enthusiastic and motivated, this course will guide you through all aspects of the design and production process, using specialist software to realise final outcomes. The course is aimed at developing the skills and qualities necessary to handle demanding but very rewarding jobs, and you will have the opportunity to be involved in live brief projects and competitions.

Is this course right for me?

This course will equip those interested in design, animation, media and interactive applications with the skills needed to become part of the rapidly expanding creative industries.

The course has links with local and national employers in media, design, advertising and web development. Live brief projects, studio visits, participation in conferences and opportunities for work experience are all part of the course, and you will gain first-hand insight into the progression options available in the creative media industry.

  • Five GCSEs at grade C or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/First Language Welsh and Mathematics/Numeracy at grade D or above
  • A portfolio/examples of work will be required for this course
  • Each application is considered on individual merit
  • Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
  • Successful completion of relevant Level 2 programme with a merit grade or above in addition to a successful decision from progression board meeting
  • GCSE English Language/First Language Welsh at grade C or above
  • GCSE Mathematics/Numeracy at grade D or above

Delivered under the prestigious awarding body University Arts London, our Level 3 Extended Diplomas will give you the same UCAS entry points as 3 A-levels.

The Extended Diploma consists of projects such as:

  • 2D and 3D animation
  • Documentary and narrative film making
  • Video and Audio editing
  • Podcast production
  • Principles and applications of social media
  • Website and app design
  • Concept and 3D visualisation for animation, gaming and film

During the course you will develop:

  • Knowledge of the fundamental concepts of the design process
  • Computer software skills
  • An understanding of the theoretical aspects and practical applications of animation and film making
  • Visual communication skills through mediums such as photography, moving image, digital drawing and motion graphics

Expect also to:

  • Participate in live brief projects and competitions
  • Create digital journals recording and reflecting on the development of your work
  • Develop creative ideas
  • Write critical appraisals of your own and others creative practice
  • Study historical and contemporary design to inform your own practice
  • Connect with employers through creative activities and visits

As part of this course you will learn through practical demonstrations and lectures as well as work-based assignments and research projects.

During the second year learners study the WJEC Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) – graded like an AS level it can provide additional UCAS points.

Successful completion of this course and progression to a higher level programme could lead to a number of future career opportunities including: Advertising, Web Design, Animation, Film and TV, Visual Effects, Digital Marketing and Games Design.

On successful completion of this course most learners apply to university to study a wide range of degree level programmes related to the creative arts. Alternatively, you will have acquired the skills needed to seek employment at a junior level in a related field.

  • You will need to pay a £70 art workshop fee each year before you start the course
  • You can rent a locker for £10 per year this will be refunded if the locker remains undamaged and keys are returned
