Is this course right for me?

This two year course is aimed at individuals wishing to follow a career path within the electrical sector. You’ll gain hands-on experience and essential theoretical knowledge to prepare for your future in the field.

This course normally runs one day per week, for 2 years, starting in September.

  • A subject related skills test may be required at the course information session
  • Each application is considered on individual merit
  • Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview

Acquire knowledge through a variety of tasks conducted in our  ‘live’ workshop setting. These tasks will be reinforced with hands-on demonstrations designed to develop your awareness of the need for safe working practices, mastering basic tool skills, and achieving precise measurements. These essential skills collectively contribute to the development of your competency as a skilled craftsperson.

The qualification will cover the following:

  • Installing enclosures for electrical cables, conductors and wiring systems
  • Installing and connecting electrical cables, conductors, wiring systems and equipment
  • Inspecting and testing de-energised electrical circuits
  • Understanding intermediate electrical science and principles
  • Performing electrical installations
  • Employment and employability in the building services engineering sector
  • Changing practices over time
  • Planning and evaluating work in the building services engineering sector in Wales

Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

Following successful completion of this course, learners will need to secure an employer/ work placement to undertake the EAL Level 3 Electrotechnical installation.

Successful completion of this course could lead to a range of future career opportunities in electrotechnical work: domestic, commercial, industrial.
