Sound business knowledge is crucial to the successful running of both public and private organisations all over the world. The Extended Diploma in Business will provide you with a sound basis of business knowledge to equip you with the skills needed to work within a wide range of organisations both in the UK and abroad.
If you are already a budding entrepreneur with business ideas, you will be offered support to help you to develop your idea from the College’s Enterprise Co-ordinator who will be able to provide you with business mentoring to help you bring your idea to life.
As part of this programme you will also study the Destination Tourism Programme, which is an additional programme of events taking place throughout the year. The programme is designed to give an insight into and raise awareness of opportunities within the tourism sector in Pembrokeshire and beyond. In year 2, you will study the WJEC Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), a Level 3 qualification which is graded like an AS level, and can provide additional UCAS points for university entry. It provides opportunities for learners to expand their knowledge, work independently and acquire new skills through a variety of activities which may include:- guest speakers, workplace visits and practical experiences.
Semester 1 is a combination of guest speakers, visits to local organisations, studying short courses and/or working on a live project. The second semester is spent in an extended work placement in a business setting within the tourism sector.
In year 2 you will complete an extended project which allows you to develop research, analytical and problem-solving skills to improve employment opportunities and enhance university applications (equivalent to half an A-level/up to 28 UCAS points).
On completion of the above programme you should have developed a wide range of transferable skills including: team working, use of initiative to solve business problems, communication and team work.
You will normally complete a Foundation Diploma in year one. Successful completion will allow you to progress to the Extended Diploma in year two which is equivalent to three A-levels.
