Higher National Certificate in Construction Management

The HNC in Construction Management is delivered in partnership with the University of Wales, Trinity St David, (UWTSD). This well-established Level 4 qualification is valued by employers and institutions alike. Recognised as the course of choice for individuals working within the industry who wish to progress into construction management, professional roles, and university.

Is this course right for me?

This Higher National Certificate (HNC) programme will prepare you for a higher technician role within the construction management sector of the construction industry.

This course normally runs one day per week,  over 2 years, starting in September.

Learners participating in courses provided by the college as a University of Wales Technical Institute receive an award validated by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

  • GCSEs at grade C or above to include English Language/First Language Welsh and Mathematics/Numeracy
  • 32 UCAS Tariff points from A-level or vocational qualification
  • Direct admission for applicants who have been out of full-time education for more than two years will be considered based on previous learning or experience
  • Each application is considered on individual merit
  • Entry may be subject to interview

The course is designed to provide you with the underpinning knowledge and understanding of the regulatory, technological, social, legal and economic context of construction management.

Modules to be studied include:

  • Construction Technology 1
  • Built Environment Law
  • Surveying and Measuring Buildings
  • Tendering and Estimating
  • Health and Safety
  • Site Management
  • Materials and Science

This course allows you to combine work experience and academic study so that you will gain the knowledge and skills employers really want.

Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

Future career options include: Construction project manager or management in the design and build sector. Self-employment within the construction industry.

Successful completion of the HNC will qualify students for entry to the Foundation Degree in Construction Management at Pembrokeshire College (subject to numbers) and other degree courses in related subjects.
