Level 3 Diploma in Engineering – Welding or Fabrication and Pipefitting

Demand for welders, fabricators and pipefitters has seen a significant rise in demand and earning potential has continued to increase. Pembrokeshire has recently seen exciting developments within the oil and gas sector and ongoing developments in the growing renewables sector show that there will be a significant need for skilled welders, fabricators and pipefitters for many years to come.

Is this course right for me?

This course is aimed at learners who work or want to work as fabrication, pipefitting and welding engineers in the engineering sector.

This course normally runs one day per week, for 34 weeks, starting in September.

  • There is normally no direct entry to this course, you would need to progress from the successful completion of previous level in this subject area or similar
  • Each application is considered on individual merit

Learners will choose between Principles of Fabrication and Welding Technology OR Principles of Welding as well as mandatory units of Engineering Health and Safety and Engineering Principles.

Technical units for Fabrication/Pipefitting:

  • Metal Active Gas Welding
  • Platework Fabrication of Materials
  • Pipe and Tube Fabrication

Technical units for Welding:

  • Metal Active Gas
  • Manual Metal Arc Welding
  • Tungsten Insert Gas Welding

Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

  • Online examination

Following successful completion of this course learners could look to progress to a higher level course at the College, seek an appropriate Apprenticeship or go directly into employment.
