WJEC Level 1 Preparing for Employment in Health and Social Care
A career in Health and Social Care can be very rewarding, and can introduce you to opportunities where you are able to work with and support some of the most vulnerable individuals in our communities. This course will give you a good understanding of what skills and knowledge are needed to be successful in a career in the Health and Social Care sector.
Is this course right for me?
The course will help you develop your understanding of the theoretical, legal, psychological, social and educational principles which underpin working effectively to care, support, empower and develop others.
Develop your communication skills and your understanding of working with diverse and often vulnerable individuals. This course is ideal for those learners that would like to work/intend to work in the health and social care sector.
During the programme you will also build your understanding of the range of careers in this sector.
- Two GCSEs at grade D or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/First Language Welsh
- Entry is subject to an enhanced DBS check
- Each application is considered on individual merit
- Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
- Successful completion of relevant programme (including skills) and decision from progression board meeting
- Entry is subject to an enhanced DBS check

- Understanding professional practice
- Developing digital and online skills
- Valuing diversity at work
- Introduction to appropriate workplace behaviour
- Working as part of a team
- Introduction to health and safety in the workplace
- Understanding principles and values
- Understanding safeguarding adults at risk
- Understanding effective communication in health and social care
- Work experience
As part of this course you will also study a VTCT Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness.
