Is this course right for me?

This four day course is intended for electrical operatives who are responsible for the inspection and testing of electrical equipment in the workplace, holiday parks etc. Commonly referred to as PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing).

You will require the 5th Edition of the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment to be brought with you on the first day.

  • You will need to provide proof of your Level 2 Electrical Installation qualification
  • Each application is considered on individual merit

The course will provide the candidate with a full working knowledge of the latest edition of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Code of Practice and will comprise a mix of theory and practical work.

You will need a copy of the Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, 5th edition by The Institution of Engineering and Technology textbook prior to the start of the course.

Content to be covered includes:

  • Hazards of electricity
  • Classification of appliances
  • Dangers associated with the use of various types of portable & fixed electrical appliances
  • Understanding of the IET Code of Practice in relation to PAT Testing
  • Statutory & Non-statutory requirements
  • Equipment construction; inspection and testing theory
  • Practical inspection and testing of equipment
  • Completion of associated documentation

Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
