Is this course right for me?

This course not only prepares learners for our Access to Higher Education courses but also provides the core theory qualification necessary for a career in Health and Social Care. Learners will delve into various subjects including academic writing, referencing, psychology, sociology, anatomy and physiology, principles of care, health and wellbeing, safeguarding, health and safety, and professional practice. Additionally, you’ll gain practical experience through work placements in the Health and Social Care sector (completion of a DBS check is mandatory for participation in work placements).

Learners will also have the opportunity to take GCSE English and Mathematics exams during the course.

  • No formal entry requirements
  • Life skills, experience and maturity are important
  • Each application is considered on individual merit
  • Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
  • Successful completion of relevant programme (including skills) and decision from progression board meeting

  • Human Body Systems: Skin, Skeleton and Muscle
  • Health Psychology
  • Sociology of Families and Households
  • Sociology of Health and Illness
  • Written Communication
  • Essay Writing and plagiarism
  • Reflection
  • Work Experience
  • Using calculations: Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
  • Presentation Skills

Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

Progression from this course would be to Access to HE Medical Science or Access to HE Health Care or directly into work in Health Care as a Health Care assistant.
