Is this course right for me?

This hands-on course empowers learners to master massage techniques at a professional competency level while delving into essential theoretical knowledge concerning the body’s dynamics in relation to sports injuries and development. Gain substantial practical experience through our massage clinic.

Geared towards technical proficiency, this qualification is tailored for aspiring Sports Massage Therapists, equipping them with the knowledge, understanding, and technical skills essential for a successful career, whether employed or self-employed.

It would be advantageous if you have:

  • A level 2 qualification containing taught elements of Anatomy and Physiology (such as GCSE Biology)
  • Previous massage experience would be an asset but not essential
  • An up-to-date First Aid certificate is required by the end of the course, this can be arranged to be taken alongside the course if necessary

This course normally runs two evenings per week, for 30 weeks, starting in October.

  • You should be physically capable of completing the practical elements of this course
  • Each application is considered on individual merit

The theoretical components of this course will develop an understanding of the functioning of muscles, joints, bones, tendons, and ligaments. Additionally, it explores how the cardiovascular system responds to the demands of sports and the importance of the lymphatic system in maintaining a healthy internal environment. Nutrition also forms a crucial part of the foundational knowledge.

Complementing this, the practical aspects encompass a range of massage techniques designed for warm-up, cool-down, rehabilitation, sports event massage, and the promotion of sporting importance. The course also addresses industrial stress management. To enhance student experience, a fully operational clinic run by learners will involve working with diverse clients.

The units to be studied include:

  • Anatomy, Physiology for Sports Massage
  • Principles of Health and Fitness
  • Understand the Principles of Soft Tissue Dysfunction
  • Professional Practise in Sports Massage
  • Sports Massage Treatments

Students can progress into various careers including roles in health spas, clinics and salons, complementary therapy private practice or self-employment within the health and fitness industry.

Following successful completion of this course learners could look to progress to a higher level course at the College, seek an appropriate Apprenticeship or go directly into employment.
