Pembrokeshire College sports student Dan Evans, has enjoyed an exceptional year in his football career gaining representative honours for Welsh Colleges U19’s and U18’s teams and the Welsh Schools U18’s team.
Dan will now be travelling to Rome for the Roma Caput Mundi Tournament from Sunday 8th March – Friday 13th March, an invite only competition involving international teams from across Europe. The Welsh Colleges U18’s team will play three pool matches over the week against Malta, Italy and Albania in an attempt to reach the final on day 5.
From the age of six to fourteen, Dan played for local clubs Tenby RFC and Kilgetty; Dan developed his career further playing for Swansea FC and then onto Cardiff FC (10-13s) before moving to Haverfordwest AFC.
Dan, now 18 years old, is studying for an Extended Diploma in Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness at the College, whilst actively playing for the College’s 1st team. “I appreciate that not all my time should be spent playing football but at the College the Academy has allowed me to combine the sport I love with academic studies that will hopefully take me to university to study Sports Coaching,” said Dan.
“Dan is a great example of how it’s possible to combine sport with academic studies; his sporting track record is exemplary and so is his academic work, Dan is on track to achieve DDM (Distinction, Distinction, Merit) for his Diploma,” said Sports Lecturer and Football Co-ordinator Andrew Thomas.
The Sports Academy at the College actively encourages students to participate in many different sports. Students are supported by qualified coaches and compete in local, regional and national leagues and cups. The female football team are also rapidly on the rise and are playing a significant role in sport at the College.
“Playing for the Sports Academy has raised my knowledge of my game, I am playing at least four times a week and have competed against Scottish colleges, England independent schools and Australian schools to date. I owe a lot to my lecturers and coaches for all their support and dedication to the success of my football career, “said Dan.
