The College is busy with preparations as ‘Shwmae Su’mae day’ gets closer. A group of Information Technology students have already taken part in a competition and the winning work will be displayed in the Atrium on Shwmae day. The focus of the day is to encourage everyone, regardless of their language ability to take pride in the Welsh language and greet each other in Welsh.
On October 15th the College will have a range of activities, staff in the salons and restaurant will be ready to greet you with a friendly Shwmae. Following the success of last year’s fideo ‘25 ways of saying Shwmae’, there will be a new follow up fideo this year, but the contents are under wraps until the day itself!
Janice Morgan, Welsh Language Development Officer for the College said: ‘This is the second year that we’ve celebrated Shwmae day here in the College. October 15th is an important day in the College’s calendar by now and we have a lot of fun working with staff and students preparing activities for the day. It certainly helps build people’s confidence and contributes to developing the Welsh ethos in the College. The event is also an excellent opportunity to collaborate with other organisations in the county and the arrangements for this year are very ambitious – watch this space for more!’
At 7pm the College is proud to welcome the ‘Shwmae Sir Benfro awards ceremony’ to the Merlin Theatre with special guest, Meri Huws (Commissioner for the Welsh language). Three teams from MITEC, Bright Start day nursery and Care and Child care assessors are waiting to find out who’s won the award for ‘Team who have developed Welsh language within customer service’ and we wish them all ‘Pob lwc’.
