With their Himalayan trek almost upon them, Pembrokeshire College colleagues Debby Kimsey and Karen Humphreys are embarking on the final stages of their fundraising efforts.
Having almost reached the £6,000 target needed to take part in the challenge, Debby and Karen are soon set to be singing from the mountain tops. Thanks to a little help from Grenville Jones – one of the UKs best known choir leaders – their most recent fundraising event saw them raise a staggering £1,180, a figure that was match-funded by Barclays Bank in Haverfordwest.
Raising funds for the Paul Sartori Foundation, in early April Debby and Karen were joined by Grenville and the Bath Welcome Choir to lead a “Choir in a Day” workshop at St Martins Church Hall followed by an evening performance in the Merlin Theatre at Pembrokeshire College. Over 50 people attended the workshop with many more coming along to enjoy the evening concert which featured a range of styles from gospel to folk to modern day.
One of the UKs most accomplished choir masters, Grenville is leader of a number of community choirs as well as the famous Bath Male Choir, who hit the headlines through their performances on the BBC Last Choir Standing. Grenville has also appeared on the BBCs Children in Need programme with Gareth Malone and past concert performances have seen him work with Katherine Jenkins and Aled Jones.
Following the event Debby commented: “We would like to thank Grenville and the Bath Welcome Choir for coming to Pembrokeshire and sharing their talent and passion for singing with us. Grenville in particular made sure everyone felt at home performing on stage. He was very charismatic and had lots of anecdotal stories to share throughout the day.”
Debby and Karen have been fortunate in their next fundraising venture as Roch Sports Committee have organised a duck race in the lovely setting of Roch Mill that will see the Paul Sartori Himalayan Trek and two other local charities benefit from the event. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun and we look forward to seeing you there on Sunday 25th May.
