Skillweld heats (sponsored by Air Products) were carried out at MITEC recently when seven trainees and apprentices took part from various companies in Pembrokeshire including three of our ECITB trainees.
The competition was extremely hard fought, the test pieces were judged by Pembrokeshire College lecturer Mrs Jo Bradshaw and Jon Pearsall, the Skillweld representative. The workshop master and competition co-ordinator was Mr Michael Tennick a welding tutor at Pembrokeshire College.
“We wanted to thank everyone at the College and our sponsors for giving the trainees this opportunity to showcase their skills at such a prestige event. An extremely good day was had by all those involved”, said Jo.
The winner, with an excellent example of his skill was Mr Craig Wheeler from Pembroke, of Ledwood Engineering. In a very close second place was Mr Ian Harries from Haverfordwest of Mainport Engineering. Third prize went to Mr William Davis an ECITB apprentice.
Hopefully Craig and Ian will go forward to the Semi final, which will be held at MITEC in February next year.
